Glenn Phillips Credits IPL for Match-Winning Century Against India in 4th T20I

New Zealand batsman Glenn Phillips credited his time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a major factor in his great performance against India in the current T20 International Series. Phillips’ statement was made following his amazing hundred in the fourth T20 International which led New Zealand to a huge 87-run win at Eden Park, Auckland on October 30th, 2026.

Phillips scored 107 runs from 49 balls, giving the hosts a huge total of 259/7 after 20 overs. He hit six fours and 10 sixes during his explosive innings that put the Indian bowlers under great pressure.

Despite India having already established an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, New Zealand were able to record their first win and change the series standing to 3-1.

Glenn Phillips Credits IPL Experience for Success Against India

Glenn Phillips stated that playing for Gujarat Titans in the 2026 edition of the IPL allowed him to enhance his batting abilities.

The New Zealand all-rounder may have had few opportunities in this year’s World Cup, but he said that the experiences he gained from being involved in the event have helped him with his recent international performances.

Phillips had limited opportunities to play for Gujarat Titans, appearing in just 6 games and accumulating 67 runs, with a high score of 25. Nevertheless, Phillips was able to take advantage of the quality of coaching, training facilities and opportunities available to develop his batting skills while part of the franchise.

In addition, he stated that the opportunity to play in the Indian Premier League may present difficulties to international players due to the fact that each team has a maximum number of roster positions available.

Players who are able to attend the tournament will have an opportunity to gain valuable experience from it, even if they aren’t able to participate regularly in games.

He feels that utilizing the training resources available to you and getting taught by experienced coaches are both equally important in developing a young cricketer.

Glenn Phillips Smashes 107 Runs Against India in 4th T20I

Phillips’ statements came after what was probably the best performance of his career on the international stage.

New Zealand was batting first after Indian Captain Shreyas Iyer chose to field, and they lost two early wickets during the powerplay.

However, Phillips assumed accountability for the loss and assisted with the rebuilding of the innings with Finn Allen, contributing 31 runs.

Once he was in the middle overs, Phillips increased his scoring rate and went on the offensive with the Indian bowlers.

When he teamed up with Michael Bracewell, it turned around the whole game. Together they scored 115 runs off of only 41 balls for their 5th-wicket partnership, giving New Zealand control.

Bracewell also played an explosive innings, scoring 65 runs from only 25 balls.

The first batsman to reach 100 runs in a T20I match for New Zealand was Glenn Phillips who reached that milestone in 46 balls. Phillips then finished at 107 runs off of 49 balls. With these performances, New Zealand set a new record for the highest T20I total ever scored by them against India with 259/7.

India Suffer 87-Run Defeat Despite Strong Batting Line-Up

To chase down a target of 260 runs, India required a quick opening stand. However, they experienced a fast collapse at the beginning of the innings.

Jacob Duffy, a Fast Bowler for New Zealand, dismissed both Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan from the first over of the match. This put the pressure on the visiting team immediately.

The Indian team had difficulty establishing partnerships, while they were losing wickets regularly.

Tilak Varma hit 35, and Naman Dhir hit 28. Neither of those performances helped India remain in the running.

Jacob Duffy was the top bowler for New Zealand, taking 4 wickets and giving up only 23 runs during his four overs. Mitchell Santner took an additional two wickets.

At the end of the twenty overs, India scored 172 runs while losing nine wickets. As a result of this, New Zealand won by eighty-seven runs.

Glenn Phillips Leads New Zealand’s Run Charts in T20I Series

The consistency of Glenn Phillips has been evident in all five matches of the T20I series for New Zealand.

After scoring a hundred in Auckland, he had the highest number of runs among all players in the series, having amassed 276 runs in four games with a remarkable average of 92.

His performance included one hundred runs and two fifties, showing how vital he was for New Zealand’s batting order.

Although the series is won by India, the top-notch performance of Phillips and the win by New Zealand in the 4th T20I give them a lot of self-confidence as they enter into the last game of the series.

His remarks further illustrate how playing in franchise-based cricket, especially the IPL, provides international cricketers with an avenue to develop their skill set as well as adjust to varying pitch conditions.

The final T20I is just around the corner, so New Zealand is hoping that Phillips stays in top form to help the team end this series with a win.
